A man's life was left in tatters by a woman who falsely cried rape.Louise Ndikum spun a 10-month tissue of lies which ended with innocent Alexesi Chua having to appear in court.

I'm delighted that more of these false claims of rape are now making the news. With national papers like the Guardian, however, we've still got a long way to go.

However, I say this with ironic frustration. I do NOT think the press should be used as a means to pry into the lives of powerless people, men or women, in order to create sensation. (It's "victims! victims! victims!" all over again.)

But we need to take this regressive step first. Men have been demonized for far too long. Perhaps a certain amount of news that men can too be victims (and indeed that most victims are men) is first necessary before improvements in news quality can be made.
